District Profile

Kurnool district, situated on the banks of the Tungabhadra and Handri rivers in the Rayalaseema region, served as the first capital of Andhra State (1953–1956) and carries a rich educational heritage. Today the district administers school education across 26 mandals organised under three revenue divisions, serving students from pre-primary through Class X.

The district's school network spans government primary schools (MPPS), upper primary schools (MPUPS), Zilla Parishad high schools (ZPHS), Andhra Pradesh Model Schools, KGBV residential schools for girls, aided institutions and recognised private schools. Flagship state programmes — Mana Badi Nadu–Nedu (infrastructure), Jagananna Vidya Kanuka (student kits), the Foundational Literacy & Numeracy mission and Mid-Day Meals — are implemented and monitored by this office in coordination with mandal educational officers.
